I want to take the CompTIA test to become certified. I found that there are 4 different tests separated into 2 categories. My question is what test would I take if I wanted to work in Computer repairs or as a general IT worker?

801 and 802, or 901 and 902. 901/2 are the revised and up to date versions of 801/2. When  you take the exams, you'd be sitting both the 1 and 2 of the series. Also look for a 901/902 study guide, those cover everything you'll need to know for both tests

Also, you can't take the 801/802 tests now, anyway.

If you are currently training for A+ 220-801 & 802 you must take the exam by June 30, 2016. If you do not take the 800 series exams by June 30, you can earn your certification by taking A+ 220-901 & 902.

When you say can't take the 801/802 can you explain what you mean?

The exams had to be taken by June 30.  I looked on the website, to help clarify for myself as well, does this mean 801/802 is phased out and now you just take 901/902?

That's what I thought might have happened, thanks for verifying that for me.

I've been looking into A+ for a little while now, planning on getting it once I have the money for it. 901/902 is the way to go. Even if it were possible to take the 800 series tests, why limit yourself by getting certified for older technologies?
