HELP with usb drive

I been using this usb flash drive for a while now. It was originally 16 GB (14.5 gb on computer) and it is showing up as a 1 gb (990 mb on computer). Can anyone explain what could of happened and if possible how to fix it. 

It sill has the files in the trash. You need to delete them for good

did you by mistake format with only 1 Gb on it? not sure how to help mate
