Hello everyone, new user here. I am currently building a gaming rig and it's coming down to chosing a processor and motherboard and ive seen that 3930ks are running around 100ish used. Are they worth it or is Skylake miles ahead and running one of those at a similar price point more efficient? Thank you for any advice!

Holy shit they are down to 100?

Get one! Now!

I have one in my system, kicks the ass out of anything I've seen in multithreaded workloads, and does pretty damn well in single threaded.

You honestly can't get much better than that for 100 bucks...

I also still rock a 3930k and have not had any issues. It is an amazing cpu. But good luck with finding a motherboard and you wont get new chipset things x79 is old. If you can find a motherboard for it. Buy it. I still compete with 6700k for some tasks

Finding a motherboard would be the issue, they will run $200-$250 used usually so it is a $350 investment at that point.

The only thing x79 lacks is NVMe support, and pcie 3.0, most people can live without those features.
