Hi,

Wife's just given me the go ahead on a 1080 GTX, never thought i'd see the day where i get a top tier card! Anyway, i'm upgrading from 2x 970's which have been under water and will put the 1080 under water also. I need to go for the lower end of the 1080 market, so with that in mind what card should i get (UK based) which is compatible with EK blocks and offers decent performance?

Thanks

The only thing that really matters for performance is the cooler, so if you're going to slap a water block onto it anyways it pretty much does not matter at all. But I'd always go with EVGA if you can just because their customer support is supposedly the best out of any of the brands.

I've never even heard of Palit so I would say probably avoid them. EVGA, MSI and Zotac are always the go-to recommendations for me. Gigabyte and Asus also make good cards but lack in customer support a bit.

Go for the EVGA. Appeasing the wife is all well and nice until you have more issues.

How about this?

I would love to grab an EVGA, but it would be an extra £90 which is like $140 ish + i still need to buy the block and backplate

As far as I know the cheapest 1080 available in the UK would be from either Palit or the lowest Zotac version. That being said, EKWB blocks only cover certain GTX 1080 versions (You have to pick the right block for the right card). The versions are:

1) Founders edition from Nvidia

2) EVGA FTW

3) Palit and Gainward JetStream

4) Asus ROG STRIX

5) Gigabyte G1

6) MSI Gaming

Does the Zotac have a block? Non-generic, I mean.

Yeah Zotac AMPs are pretty solid, just make sure it's compatible with the water block.

So I opted for the Palit Gamerock Premium  (indeed no blocks available for the Zotac).. after reading a great review, ended up costing a sweet penny with block and backplate! Now to sell the 970's ...

Thanks all

The problem was taken care of and the issue came up due to Furmark, a program that effectively strips any protection the card has in place, being the stress test of choice.
