RAM Slots

Hi guys,

 

Quick question. I am helping my friend to build his computer through skype (Yes). He got intoa problem with RAM interfering with cooler, a cooler master 212 plus. He is using Corsair vengeance dimms with Z87K from asus. Is it alright for him to use the Channel B slots, since it is not written in the manual which slots to use with 2 sticks.

So you want him to use the golden slots? if so there should be enough clearance but which direction is the CPU cooler Horizontal or Portrait?

Swap the fan from the side that it was originally on and make it the opposite

according to the manual, channel A is the black and gold closest to the cpu and channel b is the further 2. 

 

The fan is directly opposite the fan at the back of the case. he is afraid that it will intefere with air flow.

Yes you can use the golden slots. It's not ideal but you wont notice it.

Just make sure they are in slots with same color. Otherwise no problems. Or he could change cooler to other way or switch fan to other side as suggested before.

It doesn't matter.  Preferably use two slots of the same color, either color will do fine.  If you have to put them in two different color slots it is not the end of the world.  You lose some theoretical performance but it is doubtful you will ever notice.
