That is an Ethernet cable.

You have probably heard of WiFi. An Ethernet cable does what WiFi does, but it is not wireless. It tends to be more reliable than WiFi, and faster.

Ethernet in general is a standard used for connecting several computers (Including phones, tablets, cameras, laptops, everything that connects to the internet) into a network, and the internet.

I doubt you are doing anything or have any equipment fast enough that makes the cable a bottleneck, so I assume you are asking about your NIC/network card/network interface.

That is the interface which you plug your Ethernet cable into. It has a square hole and a little clip. The socket is called an RJ45 socket.

Most are now gigabit, which means 1 gigaBIT per second, or about 135 megaBYTES per second. If your PC is less than 6 years old, you will probably have a gigabit network card. This is probably 10x faster than your internet connection, so you won't be able to improve your speeds at your computer's end.

For gaming, you want  low latency. How is your home setup? If you just have a basic ISP provided router, there is little to do to improve latency. Latency comes with complex networks.
