How Do I Say This?

I'm typing up my college application essays, but I can't really figure out how to word this phrase:

 

"....as there's always someone who is having a worse day than you."

 

It just doesn't sound right, like I'm not phrasing that sentence right. And of course I can't put the word 'shittier' because you know, application essays and stuff. Any help?

Having a day worse than yours?

 

It seems like it should be fine though if you can't come up with anything else.
