First Pc build plan

Ramen Man

Hello I am Ramen Man, this is my PC plan:

  • CPU: I7-4690K 4.0gHz Quad Core- £299
  • Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC Mate ATX LGA1150- £74.99
  • RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2X4GB) DDR4-1333- £48.08
  • Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200 RPM
  • GPU: MSI GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr- £275.12
  • Optical Drive: LG WH14NS40 Blue-Ray/DVD/CD Writer- £60.82
  • Wireless Network Adapter: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800: £27.99
  • Monitor: Asus VS248HR 24.0" 60Hz- £114.71
  • PSU: CM B Series B 500 Ver.2 PSU- £38.99

Total: £982.13

Budget: £1000

Budget Remaining: £17.87

Note:

  • PSU maybe a bit overkill since the CM site calculated that I only use 413W yet it recommended a 600W PSU which is even more over kill, I am may change this in the future depending on circumstances.
  • This is kinda aimed to be a Corsair theme build as I have a recent interest in what they offer such as their cases, peripherals etc.
  • Not too sure what to do with the remaining budget, I may try to save up to get a headset as I don't have one or maybe to get a to a certain point where I can afford upgrades.
  • Sorry if this is formatted incorrectly, I am kinda new to the forums :/ (Also I am kinda lazy and I am writing this at 12.28 am in England).

Please let me know what you think about this build plan and thank you for reading it! - Ramen Man

Coolermaster B2 are garbage and should not be powering a GTX 970. Get a Corsair CX 450/550/650M, RMi/RMx/HXi, EVGA G2, GS, GQ, B2, Anything from Seasonic or XFX (excluding the XT) or the Antec High current series instead.

Yeah... I am not too sure where I can get info on Corsair products since I have been told that Amazon reviews can be unreliable. Thanks for the info! :D

You said i7, he was just correcting you. An i5-4690K is not 4.0GHZ, I think you meant i7-4790K

1. What case are you using?

2. Why are you using a 4th-gen CPU and a 970? Get a 6700K and 6GB GTX 1060 instead

1. I am using the Corsair Spec-03.

2. I don't think that would be wise for my budget since I only have £1000...

3. If u haven't seen it before, I have made an edit when he said that..

put it in the top post too. Other than that, I don't see any problems really. I'd listen to that one guy about the PSU. @Comic_Sans_MS

This doesn't list your PSU, however someone linked me this. Maybe check out the good ones on the list and look for newer models.

1. Yes i have bought this case already, i think around early this year if i am correct

2. Um i am not too sure since it may change my budget, it might also mean that i have to change the mobo to an 1151 socket rather than a 1150 if i am correct.

That list isn't that great at all. It has listed "Rosewill" as a brand to replace immediately which is utter bullshit, stuff like the Rosewill Capstone are good. And also it has only 4 tiers which isn't much at all.

This is a much better tier

Do you mean changing from Z170 to H170 or B150?

You'd also probably have to pick DDR4 ram

@Shiv78 recommended a 1060. Here's one close to your budget if you want to check it out

Thank u but do u really think i should bump it up to DDR4, 6th generation for my CPU and a better GPU? I am only limited to  £1000, pretty sure as well if i were to make changes it would go over it. :/ Also this is going to be my first build, i could always make upgrades as time goes by.

If you want to see how a 6700 + 1060 build would look, scout out the pricing. Use PC Part Picker or UK computer websites to see what you want.

I'm sure NO ONE here would say that this is a BAD build. In fact my friend rocks a 4790K, and a 750 ti. He can still get really good performance with all kinds of games. He mostly plays M&B warband, CIV 5, Skyrim, and COD 4, but I'm sure a 970 will fare you off really well in modern games. I have an R9 390 (About the performance of a 970) with a dual core 2009 AMD CPU sporting DDR2, and I can run Fallout 4 at ultra settings until my PSU decides it's time for my computer to crash.

This is cheaper than your 970, performs better too.

Extra 40 should help with upgrading to Z170 and a 6700K

Add a WiFI adapter if you need it. More powerful than the 6500 build up above and only .63 over 1K
