I'll put it this way: I'll never buy another monitor for gaming that doesn't have GSync or FreeSync (depending on what GPU I have). It makes a huge difference.

That said, whether it's worth it or not can depend on what games you play and what GPU you have. GSync is only active when below your monitor's refresh rate, so if you're going to be playing only CS:GO, where you'll always be above the monitor's refresh rate, it's not worth it.

Adaptive sync is a great technology that increases smoothness and eliminates screen tearing when framerates are less than the max refresh rate of the monitor.

Is it worth $200? No. With those $200 you can get an overkill GPU for your target refresh and resolution that will keep framerates above vsync at all points.

In other words, Gsync is not worth $200, but Freesync is worth buying AMD. (At worst, you'll be getting a worse value for money by $50 from buying AMD and probably much less, but you save $200 and that's a net gain).

Well I am going to be playing not extremely demanding fps games like CS: GO. I am going to be running a 75Hz monitor at 3440x1440p with a GTX 1080 strix OC by Asus so I do not think I will be going below the refresh rate of my monitor.

Sounds like you'll be fine buying the Freesync version and just keeping yourself open to an AMD GPU upgrade in the future, or alternatively at some point Nvidia might embrace Freesync since it's a strictly better technology than gsync (same function, hundreds of times cheaper).

My Acer XR341CK is a 75Hz Freesync 3440x1440 monitor and I love it to death! Great for gaming and movies, I bought it because I have a pair of R9 290X in CF mode and it can handle games at max or near max setting even at this resolution.

I also have a pair of GTX Titan 6GB on an AOC Q2963PM 29" 2560x1080 monitor (no Freesync or Gsync) and I don't experience any screen tearing (my 2x GTX Titan can hit >100fps in many games and the AOC monitor seems to handle higher and lower framerates for games without any issue. Do note that due to Gsync modules, most Gsync monitors are limited to only two inputs for now.....IIRC that is. My Acer XR341CK has 4 inputs.....plenty to go around. Though only the two DP inputs are capable of Freesync......

its one of those things where once you have you, you really miss it when its gone. I have the ASUS 34" Ultrawide 100fps GSYNC and the GTX 1080 STRIX compliments PERFECTLY. I can't play on anything less or else I get frustrated for no rational reason.
