Look up Darik's boot and nuke...

It is included with the HIREN'S Boot disc. This is a live cd that you can use for troubleshooting and performing various tasks. If you use the boot & nuke... don't be in a hurry as one pass takes a while, depending on the size of the drive and how many passes you perform. I have found that 1 pass is sufficient and it takes a few hours...

Did you try to use it from the operating system or did you boot directly to it?

PLEASE READ ALL CAUTIONARY ITEMS LISTED AS I WILL ASSUME NO LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT YOU MAY DO TO YOUR SYSTEM BY NOT FOLLOWING THE CAUTIONS AND NOT FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS EXPLICITLY!

If you really want to "wipe" the drive do the following: (Assuming that you are using windows 7 or an earlier version of windows)

1. Download HIREN'S boot cd from HERE!

2. Download image burn from Here! if you do not have an iso burning program on the system you are using.

3. Burn the HIRENS iso to a cd and set aside.

4.. Burn the attached file to a cd. (it is a windows ME boot disc with a debug command in it)

5. Unplug all hard drives from the system that you want to "wipe" except for the ONE HARD DRIVE you want to wipe! (this is very important as the next steps will remove the partitions and formatting of the drive as well as overwrite the data on it making it unrecoverable if secure wipe is done)

6. Go into bios and select boot from CD as boot option.

7. Insert the Windows ME boot disc and let it load automatically to a dos prompt.

8. At the dos prompt type in the following commands EXACTLY!

Type in the word "DEBUG" (without the parenthesis and  press enter) and at the blinking cursor type the following:

F 200 L200 0 (press enter)

A 100 (press enter)

MOV AX, 301 (press enter)

MOV BX, 200 (press enter)

MOV CX, 1 (press enter)

MOV DX, 0080 (press enter)

INT 13 (press enter)

INT  3 (press enter)

Press Enter again then type in

D100 LF

You should get the following response on the screen:

BB 01 03 BB 00 02 B9 01-00 BA 80 00 CD 13 CC

This response on the screen needs to be exact! It may have some digits in front of it but after the : it needs to be exact! If it is anything other than what I have shown as the response it is not right and could damage the drive, so follow the instructions exactly!(IF IT IS NOT RIGHT THEN TYPE IN  THE WORD "EXIT" AND HIT ENTER TO GO BACK TO THE DOS PROMPT)

If the response is correct you need to enter in G=100

The script has now run and the partition is gone and the file system on the drive is gone as well.

9. Eject the CD and replace it with the HIRENS Boot CD and restart the system and boot to the HIREN’S boot CD, selecting DOS Programs and then select had disk tools, then select more and the select darik’s boot and nuke.

10. Run darik’s boot and nuke with 1 pass random data. This should be sufficient for what you are seeking. Be patient as this will take some time. The larger the drive the more time it takes.

When this is done you will have a RAW disk, unformatted with no partitions on it and just a bunch of random data written on the sectors on the drive. You can now install your os on to the drive like you are installing it onto a new drive.

NOTE: ALL DATA ON THE DRIVE WILL BE ERASED! IF THIS DRIVE CONTAINS A RESTORE PARTITION OR IT CONTAINS YOUR INSTALLATION SOFTWARE IT WILL BE GONE! DO NOT PREFORM THIS OPERATION UNLESS YOU HAVE A COMPLETE INSTALLATION DISK WITH AN OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLER ON IT! (INSTALLATION DVD/CD)

MANY OF THE MAJOR COMPUTER MANUFACTURERS ARE SHIPPING THEIR SYSTEMS WITH THE OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLATION ON THE HARD DRIVE. DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU HAVE THIS! I WILL NO BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DO THIS AND NO LONGER HAVE AN OPERATING SYSTEM ON THE DRIVE TO INSTALL!
