Wired connection drops out intermittently

Hello,

 

     I have my desktop PC set up in my basement with a cat 6 cable running from my router upstairs. When I have it plugged into the network port in my motherboard it will work fine for a couple of minutes and then disconnect completely, it does this for approx. 10 seconds and then reconnect. I thought at first that it was an issue with drivers but I have tried updating them and rolling them back and still get the same problem. fed up with the whole thing I went out and purchased one of those USB to RJ45 connectors but I still get the same problem. After that I thought maybe it was an issue with the cord itself but when I plug it into my laptop it works perfectly fine. I am at a loss, I have a gaming computer that I cant really use for gaming grrr

Please let me know if there is any information I can provide.

CPU – i7-6700k

GPU – GTX 980

Does the computer throw up any errors during that time?

Have you tried running the windows troubleshooter when it's down?

No errors at all... When I run the troubleshooter during the brief period that the connection is dropped it just says that the network device is not installed, this is what led me to think it was a driver issue, but if it was just a driver issue then the USB device should work... I am going to try a fresh install of windows today and hope that helps, but I am pretty sure I have already tried that
