hdd dying?

Hi guys

 

So today my pic was fine until I went for around 10 mins and when I came back it was really slow, like 2mins to load Facebook so I restarted.

Upon restart I heard a beep and the American megatrends info and it said smart wd (can't remember the numbers etc) and something about replacing it. The windows loading screen with the spinning circle is taking an age now. Is it practically dead? It's is a Wd black 1tb drive. If I put my ear on the case I hear the drive, my opinion is that it sounds slightly "rough"

I left it for 10 mins and it still hadent loaded, here is a pic of what it says

that's a 4y drive (at most), still in warranty (5y) - give WD a call or the shop where you got it from

Do you have anther drive or a computer where you can test that WD Black? I would recommend connecting it to another computer as a secondary drive (internally or externally with a SATA to USB cable, Dock Station or a simple external enclosure), run WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic and see if the drive passes the tests or if it fails one of them. 

@zMeul (thanks for mentioning, btw) also gave you a suggestion to get the raw values of the S.M.A.R.T. status so I'd listen to that too. If you have trouble reading them feel free to post them here and we will help you out with that.  

 

WD Black should feature a 5-year warranty so if it's still under warranty contact the place where you got the drive from or our live support and if the drive does have problems proceed with the RMA procedure.
