Minecraft Servers

Hi guys! We're helping a club making a private minecraft server. They currently have a LAN server, but our 'customers' want to be able to join the server and work on the project outside of school. They are making designs and random shit from minecraft (for elementary-middle schoolers). I know, u guys are gonna say use sketchup, etc but kids don't know how to use it and they know minecraft well. Also, it's not my call. Our tech club decided to help them out. How do I make a private server that is not LAN? We have enough servers in our school to power it, but we're not sure how to make a private server. Thanks!

There are plugins that let you have a password.

 

You could also have a VPN and limit it to minecraft traffic.

 

If you have it without a password, and only hand out the ip, most others won't joint it.

Open ports for the minecraft server but have a whitelist in place.

We don't want to spend money, but if it's absolutely neccesary, we will.
