I followed this tutorial in making a bootable USB for DSL however, on both my laptop, and desktop it is not recognized as a bootable device.

What went wrong? Is it a wrong file? What I want essentially is to have no HDD, and only plug a flash drive in to work in DSL. I want my 1GB Flash drive to be its own computer essentially.

If you have another guide for another distro or whatnot, I would like to try it out. I only need it to be able to program in Java. Most else is moot.

I was watching a video on "reviving old PCs" and DSL was noted because it's only 50MB.

I don't have the resources to run my own server of any kind unfortunately.
Now that you mention servers I do recall my school enabling us to use OpenSuse or Open Suze if we log in appropriately however I wanted to have a PC that "Could" fit in my pocket. Said in quotes, because it's only the OS, and files that would be brought with me. Just as a novelty that I feel comfortable using whenever at a computer other than my own.

Can you link me any guides with download pages for these small Linux Distros?
