Hello everyone!!

So, I decided to build my first pc, I'd really like some advises though, especially for the graphics card, where I am being torn apart..
I want the pc mostly for gaming, also mild design (nothing serious, I'm still an amateur) and basic music recording/editing (soundcard incoming next year) but I could live without the last two. As for games, I don't "demand" ultra graphics, 4k, vr and such but I would absolutely love being able to play new games (witcher 3, doom 4, dishonored 2 etc), and of course modded skyrim, decently and neat.
Also, I will be overclocking the system (nothing extreme though) so I want it to handle that as well.
Now, at the specs!

Case: Corsair Carbide Spec-03 (€75) or Aerocool Aero 500 (€41)
Whichever case I choose, I will fill it up with fans.
CPU: Intel i5 6600k 3.5 Ghz (€265)
CPU cooler: Coolermaster HyperX 212X (€41)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA Z170XP-SLI (€148)

OR ASRock Z170 Extreme4 (€143)
RAM: 3x Kingston HyperX Fury 4gb (€69)
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 120 gb (€74)
HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB (€60)
PSU: Coolermaster B700 Version 2 (€73)
UPS: Bitmore U850VA (€65)
Monitor: Samsung S22F350FHU 22" (€120)

And, now the gpu issue..
I want to have a gpu that will be able to handle games as I mentioned above for at least two years more. Then, I'm planning on upgrading in a new gpu (or SLIing) since until then it will be known if dx12 or vulkan indeed succeed in the game world.
As for now, I can't decide what to buy. I can find the gtx 1060 with 3gbs at 230 up to 280 euros (depending on the version). If I choose the 6gb version, price range starts at 297 up to 388 euros (depending on the version), a hurting price. I'd like to know if the 3gb versions could handle these games.
And then, it is the gtx 970 at price range 288-370 (depending on the version as well), which is an SLI-able card.
Cards like 980, 1070 and up, starts at 400 euros and I really cannot afford that much.
Of course, I'm open to any other similar gpu suggestion.

Also, which of two motherboards mentioned is better?

Anyway, every response and help will be really appreciated!! Many thanks in advance! (and sorry for the long post)

Have a great day!

If you have a 970, from what I gather from what you are saying, just sell the 970 and use the money to buy a 1070. Other wise build looks great

Hey, thanks for answering!

Actually, no, I have not the 970, I just thought it would work. So, the 1070 is out of budget, sadly.

The 970 would not be a smart decision I guess, right?

I will say 1060, since it is not used and is "newer" but performance wise they are the same. if you can get the 6gb edition that would be better. But personally I would save as much as you can to get a 1070 if you want. Someone probably has a better answer for you so take my word with a grain of salt.

No 970!

If you're only doing light overclocking the only things to worry about with motherboards are BIOS usability, (PWM) fan headers, SLI options and looks, unless something has known problems. Read some reviews (this should point out any serious problems) and check out their specs on the manufacturers' websites.

Beyond that set yourself a budget, pick a decent case and 2-3 quiet PWM fans then work out your graphics card budget. Just buy the best thing you can afford. Look for a reputable brand and reads reviews of your shortlisted options to find out overclockability, thermals and loudness.

The 970 is very popular, likely a solid choice for your purposes but so is the 1060. Either will handle 1080p just fine.

Don't try to SLI on your budget. not worth it really. in 2 years betters cards will be out, sell whatever you have then and just get whatever you can.

As for now, an RX 480 4GB would be a better investment than a 1060 3GB. but a 1060 6GB is a better investment than a RX480 8GB IMO (assuming your prices are somewhat reminiscent of the US pricings atm)

as for "will the 1060 3GB card run those games"? yes it will. it will run them fine. but you're not going to be maxing out the games or getting a ton of mods going because 3GB of VRAM can be quite limiting even at 1080p resolution in some instances.

Btw, your build comes to about 1220 before taxes and whatnot if you get the cheapest 3GB 1060. it comes to about 1290 with the cheapest 6GB 1060. It would be a real shame to skimp out on 70 bucks for the most vital gaming component in your system after spending that much on everything else. my recommendation would be to get a non-k CPU (i5 6500/6600 or maybe i7 6700) and a cheaper motherboard/cooler and then use the money saved to invest in your GPU solution if you really cannot afford the money for a 1060 6GB. on a 1080p 60hz panel having a 6600k is overkill. Honestly you could probably get an i3 6100 and still be able to run ~60 fps on all current games.

Wow, lots of answers. Thanks everyone for answering and sorry for not answering to everyone by name.

I chose an unlocked CPU and a good cooler because I do want to overclock it. I don't just want a pc for games, I'd buy a console if I did :P

So, I guess the best option is to save up for the 1060 6gb, if I want a decent performance, right?

And what about the motherboards? I have read that the gigabyte one is very good for its price and can hold up long time (all the ultra durable series) but I have read very good reviews about the Asrock too, handling oc better and such. The late one also kinda fascinates me because it allows both sli and crossfire as well. But, at that price, will it be efficient and worthy enough?

Yes, or if the RX480 8gb is significantly cheaper (>50 USD) get that.

I actually chose Nvidia because right now it performs quite better than Amd, with the exception of few games when running on vulkan, dx12 etc. If the time comes when Amd performs better, I will gladly "change side". So, the rx 480, as good it may be, isn't that great compared to the 1060, at least as far as I know.
