I recently made the switch from Console to PC, however I'm stuck with this old Compaq 8510p which is literal garbage. My budget IS $500.

I had a build going on pcpartpicker, but I'm not sure if it's the best for the price, and would be grateful for any help you guys could offer and am open to suggestions however staying below the budget of $500 would be great. Below is my list and if it isn't great please let me know.

Remember to get a case, a fan to cool your cpu, and peripherals. May end up putting you a little over 500 bucks however...

What he said.

Also, replace the GPU with an MSI GeForce GTX 960, it might not be as good (I don't really know.) but the 960 is way cheaper on eBay.

Also, you will need fans for your case to cool everything down. Unless you get a case with included fans, you will need to spend about $10 - $20 on some fans.

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070

MOBO: ASUS Z370-F STRIX

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2133MHz

Complete with case and storage, you should get this today, and enjoy the better CPU for longer. You can later on upgrade that GPU.

I personally just built from micro center bundle this setup

FX 8320e with Gigabyte 970 Gaming SLI M.2 board for

134 dollars

(May want to consider the "8core")

MX300 SSD 275GB for

59 dollars

RX480 8 Gig XFX 259

(I heard the  Radeon R9 290  was going for 85 dollars recently at micro center too)

EVGA 700 PSU

53 dollars amazon price match

Case I went with  DIYPC D480-W

59 dollars on newegg

I wanted the PHANTEKS p416 for same price but no drive bays

All for about 600

Like i said though if you go to micro center you save on bundling for motherboard and processor,

and if they have the R9290 for 85 bucks your under 500

Thanks to everyone who has replied, I do have previous computers stashed away in my basement (Dead Mobo inside, and loose solder on GPU that I got from my workplace years ago. A couple 250GB drives and fans), so a new Mobo, a CPU, a PSU, Memory, and a GPU. So that settles the rough $100 on a case, fans, and storage.
