So i bought a new gtx 980 to my rig to do sli with my other gtx 980 on win 10 (trouble :P )

Turned off system and installed the new gpu.

Booted up and oo win 10 updated and found sli avalible so I enable it and startet Valley Benchmark test…as soon as it started to hit some load the pc restarted. So I booted up and started valley again…same thing. And now I saw aswell that the drivers for the cards was gone, crap shit it my psu then right?

I bough new psu and installed, win works fine so I tri to install the video drivers but I can only get the new card installed, the old one is getting “error code 43 or code 31”  so now I try a hell of a lot to fix it, drive wiper from guru changing slots etc etc and im am right now at this..

The new one works fine wherever I put it, the old one on the otherhand (that I know works) i cant get any pic on even in slot 1 or 2 EVEN with the mobo graphic plugged in it kinda “overrides” mobo and gives me black screen…everything runs in background just no pic.

For me it feels like the drivers it fucked on it and I cant uninstall them even when the device manager shows “display driver”  after I used display wiper.

And ideas what I could do, it seen really weird if the card is broken, I played it the night before for a couple hours and it worked fine!

At the same time you learn by triyng and asking others that are more experianced then you are..

True,

first off are the drivers crashing when trying to launch a game? (if yes, then the game most likely doesnt support it)

then try to put only 1 of the 2 cards in and see if it works. then try with the other

if you can get into windows with one card, use DDU(just google it) and install an older version of your driver.

Also check if your mobo supports sli and the cards are well secured inside their slot.

Havn't looked up your mobo yet, but maybe it has to do with what slot you put it in because of PCIe lanes. Check manual for correct setup with dual GPU. Doubt your PSU is the problem, even the Corsair RM should be fine.

What are the mentioned codes standing for btw? And I asume you have them tried with stock speeds, no OC. If not, try that.

Been sli'ng for years. Same amount of problems as a single card. Now I'll offer help unlike some.

When you boot with the "bad" card being the only one in the system, can you hear windows start? If so turn the monitor off and back on. That fixed it for me before.

Also do you have another monitor to plug into the mobo? I had an issue that lost the drivers for my cards and I tried everything to fix it but I added a monitor to my board and they we able to find the drivers again.

use the ddu is safe mode then restart in normal and try to install an older version of nvidia 359 or 368.

As for as i know just Valley benchmark, in the first 5 sec i saw that i had almost twice the fps before it rebooted.

Thats the thing the old card i cant seem to get pic with in slot 1  but the new one work, this is without video drivers installed.

Aah yes i have used DDU to remove and restart not to install older version though.

Will check the mobo before anything else aswell thx !

Might be that but it worked first first time, the pcie i dont think thats the problem.

But will check

The codes stands for if u mean Code 43/31 that windows has stopped the hardware for some reason, unsaly from what i read its beacuse driver failure of some sort.

Install both cards and a monitor to each, good card in the primary slot and no sli bridge.

Diable the bad one, uninstall driver, enable it, restart, clean install of nvidia driver.

Or go back to the device manager and see if it can find it an install it.

That i will try tonight!

Just to do it proper i use DDU in safemode to uninstall driver and then find one of the older version you posted before and clean install.

How likely would it be that the actuall card is broken, feels really  wierd that it would just because you took it out of chassi a couple times, its not that damn sensitive right?

Doubt it just broke. Mine quite working because I changed the refresh rate. Drivers manically disapeared. Took me all night to figure out how to get them to work.

I assume that was the issue as its never done anything like this. I was doing some testing with frame sync, started getting a lot of stutter and frame drop then realized that the color bit had changed via the windows default wallpaper.

Install the working card in the top PCI with one monitor, bad card in a third or forth PCI, if possible. Then plug the second monitor into the mobo, turn on igpu monitor in the bios and boot up and reinstall the chipset driver.
