240GB would be fine for an OS and programs but you would need another drive for games.

If you play a lot of large games then yes you will run out very quickly but personally the best setup is an SSD and a HDD. If you cannot afford both I would go with the HDD just for pure peace of mind about how much space you have.  But I would really try and get both just for fast boots and regular program loads and mass storage.

I was thinking of getting a 240GB SSD for a future build but people said that I would run out of room very fast and say that I should get the 1TB hard drive. What should I do?

A HDD is still fine for budget backup & some like WD Black are decently fast but come with a 5 year warranty. Personally I'd say if your gaming will benefit greatly from an SSD then get a larger one. Like HyperX Savage 480GB or Samsung 850 EVO 500GB. Otherwise if that's not affordable right now then get a WD Black 1TB first, followed by a SSD like the ones above & just copy your OS & the games you play the most to that. Then if the SSD ever dies, you've still got a fairly fast backup boot drive to use until a replacement arrives.
