In that case I would get the Audio-Technica MSR7s for closed headphones or the HD558s for open headphones.

Sup. I'm back.

So, I have used the same headphones for about 4 years now, and I'm anticipating an upgrade. What pair should I get?

REQUIREMENTS:

  • NO BEATS BY DRE!!!!!
  • Less than $250
  • Must be on ear or over ear
  • Should have a mic (a headset w/ no mic is still fine though)

Thx again,

SCAMAZING

the best headphones I can recommend are the hd 558. There 100 bucks and fantastic, maybe pair it with a decent amp and you got a good budget combo.

Hmm, there's the DT770 and you could probably also get the Audio-Technica MSR7s with your budget.

But the two pairs sound very different from one another, so it all come down to the sound signature that you enjoy the most.

The m50x are good but are overpriced. There not the best option for your money is all.

How the headphones sound. Not all headphones sound the same, and a sound signature referes to how the headphones differes from one another.

If the case is that the person doesn't know, a neutral sound signature is the best bet. (Like the 558s :D)

not true, a lot of people will find a neutral sound signature borring. Also the HD558 are not what you would call neutral, they have a small mid-bass bump, they are what people call balanced. Neutral headphones would be K612 or HD600, where the K612 are more on the analytical side of things.

Yes there is a difference between balanced sound and neutral sound

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M
