Hello everyone,

I have spent about a month slaving over a new build for my home office. The build currently in my bio is one my company paid for and i can't take it home. Working from an older thinkpad t400 at home is slowing me down and i need something more beefy.

Minimum requirements:

at least 4 cores,

at least 32 gigs of ram

ssd needed - 256gb or less is fine

need a 1 tb hard drive

nice windowed case (prefer a black and white build)

gpu for aesthetics only - make sure it doesn't affect overall system performance

cable mods for 8 pin and 24 pin and gpu pcie ports.

budget - 1500 dollars CAD - you can go to the maximum of 200 dollars more - I will not be doing gaming on this, i need something that can handle up to 4 vms or heavy automation and server redundancy testing

btw - the psu has to be AT LEAST tier 2 from @STRMfrmXMN 's list

im wondering if i could just plug in my old hdd with windows 7 on it into the mobo and boot from that. would i need to install the drivers for the new hardware before hand or can i just plug it in, boot for the first time and then install and uninstall new and old drivers later????

You should have no problem plugging that HDD and running the computer, then letting Windows install drivers (install the GPU drivers manually though).

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here
