it wont damage it no, but you will have dropped frames, stutter, lag etc from the bottleneck. Basically what a bottleneck is your CPU cant keep up with the instructions needed to keep the GPU happy and pushing the frames. The GPU gets bored waiting on the information back from the CPU. It will degrade your experience while gaming.

The bottlenecked 480 would not run any worse than the 460. If you plan to upgrade CPU and motherboard then get the RX480 and don't look back. A 460 would be money wasted after you upgrade the CPU and then are looking at another GPU upgrade.

Hello, I'm new to pc gaming. not got the best of pc's due to being ripped off when it came to buying a pc worth £200 for £500...heh anyways, I currently have a Amd A10 7800k not overclocked. I'm looking at buying a gpu so i can advance onto more recent games. What would be the best gpu for me? i'm looking at buying a RX480 8gb would it be worth buying? will it bottleneck? feel free to drop a recommendation on which gpu will suit my cpu.

R7 360, so you can crossfire with the apu.

RX480 would be bottlenecked by that APU. You would be best getting a RX460 or 470.
