Wii U or Wait

I already have a PC that I love and use everyday, but I really miss the good old Nintendo exclusives and would like to sit down and play some smash or Zelda. So the obvious answer to this problem is to buy a Wii U. Well its not that easy, with all the rumors of the Nintendo NX spreading about it makes me wonder whether or not to wait and see what that has to offer. I just wanted some input on what you guys think.

I'd wait. Breath of the Wild is a confirmed dual-release as a Wii U game and an NX launch title, and it has also been confirmed that the graphics of the game are going to be different on the Wii U and NX, which probably means the NX version is going to look a lot better. It's right around the corner too.

Wait, and why Wii U. It is boring as heck. That's why I switched to PS4 and also GTA V.

its for Nintendo exclusives... if it weren't for those no one would ever buy a Nintendo product

Um there is a thing called emulators? that is where you can play Nintendo games

I'd wait. Whatever the NX is it's coming out in March next year based on what Nintendo has said. There are also fairly reliable rumours that they're stopping Wii U shipments now. They stopped production on the Wii U a while ago. So as much as I like the platform it's not one that I'd buy into at this point. At the very least wait until the NX is out so you can get a Wii U for cheap on clearance.

For a start some people like to actually pay for the content they consume. That's actually a thing. But even if they didn't it's not like the Wii U emulators out there are in a good state currently. Do a bit of research, it's well short of Gamecube/Wii emulation at this stage. The most impressive video I could find of the best Wii U emulator in action? Mario Kart 8 erratically jumping between 40 and 60fps with an i7 and 1080. Other games have weird texture glitches. It's still very experimental. So yeah, save your money, go legit, get a better experience.... because this is how that games runs on original hardware....

The Wii U is kind of in video game purgatory at the moment, nothing new on the horizon for it but consoles and games are still priced high enough that it's hard to justify buying at this time.  I have one and absolutely love it but going to wait until prices drop before filling in some holes in the collection.

I'd wait.  Hopefully the NX will have Wii U backwards compatibility on launch.

As for the Wii U being "boring..."  FE# TMS is a damn fun game, and Splatoon finally gave me something no other shooter could. (fun)  I'd say that games-wise, the Wii U remains one of the more compelling offers between the 3 current gen consoles.  Also tends to have a rather high ratio of platform exclusives... unlike the PS4 and X1 which have to share a library of games.  Personally I do not regret my choice in the slightest.  Love the hardware, love the games, and I love not having to pay a monthly fee for the online services.  Naturally your mileage will vary. 

 

Wait for the NX, and see just how magical it can be... or just how much magical powder the development team in Nintendo has been snorting.

I agree with what @skywake said.  

The only exception being (in my opinion) if you can find a used one with all accessories for much less than $200.  That might be difficult, though, unless it's in perfect working order with cosmetic issues. 

 

It has some good exclusives. If you're anxious to play them, look for cheap hardware.  

 

If you're not anxious, just wait for the next console.  It might be backwards compatible.. maybe.. some how.

There isn't currently a Zelda game made for Wii U.  Breath of the Wild will be available for it, but at the same time the NX launches.  I wouldn't consider Zelda as a motivation to buy a Wii U. 

 

But Wii U would be motivation to buy Breath of the Wild.    By that I mean I already have a Wii U, and have pre-ordered it. And will likely get the NX version, too.
