I am currently using a intel core 2 quad 8400 at 3.17ghz  and a msi gtx 460 cyclone (781 mb version) at 900 mhz and 2200 on the ram. I have only 4 gb of ddr2 at just around 800ghz. Christmas is coming soon and I wanted to get my self a little upgrade. I am in high school and jobs around my area all require me to be at least 18 so money is short. At first I wanted to upgrade to a 750ti or a 950, then the rx460 came out I was thinking about that. Then I thought, I can live with this gpu in csgo( 1080p all settings high no AA motion blur on at 120fps ) and blade in soul ( all settings on high 2xmsaa and motionblur on 60fps) , the other games my integrated gpu is getting like 60fps, but when I edit videos for school or youtube in lightworks, once i start adding more than one video and more then 3 audio files it lags. I was thinking of getting a amd fx 4300 or 6300 system. Any suggestions on which to go with. Maybe just deal with and get a full system and use my current gpu in it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. This is my first post here so let me know if im in the wrong category as well, thank you!

One option would be to replace only the motherboard and cpu. Something like a 4350 and a 78LMT should be a major improvement assuming your current PC is a standard form factor.

hmm ill look into to it. Form factor is not a problem being that my pc is a wall mounted one..I will look into the pricing of it now.

I would upgrade the CPU if editing is your priority (I also use lightworks yay :D) but don't get an FX processor in 2016, an i3 beats an 8350 in some scenarios now.

I wouldn't say that editing is my priority. But it defiantly is a hassle on my current system. I also don't particularly like the idea of not having 4 physical threads.

The i3 ( a 2 core 4 thread processor ) beats an FX 8350 (an 8 core processor)

Do you want speed or bragging rights of an 8 core 4 core?

So a 2 core 4 thread i3 would out perform a fx 8300 ( the 8 core at 3.5 ghz or something near that ) even at a lower speed?

If you overclock the 8350 it'll outperform it, but with an i3 you could upgrade to an i5 later without switching motherboards.

I have a cooler master hyper tx3 and a hyper 212 evo on hand, i was planning to  overclock. Which poses my next question. If i go for a 4350 and over clock it would i be able to out perform a similarly priced i3 ?

Probably not, 4350s are not what I'd call good CPUs.

Thanks a lot! Not in the sarcastic way.. Though  i still need to decide whether i can do a system upgrade financially. ( my current system only as a oem key for windows)  I have decided to for go the  system upgrade. Now I have to decide whether to  use intel i3 and have the upgrade path to i5 but, i assume id need to get new ram or go with the amd 8300 or the 6 core model and over clock those. Though even though amd seems to be the lesser, i think i may benefit from it intel  in terms of price. ( Being Canadian eh ) and do a full upgrade to intel then donate my amd system to my brother ( still younge ) thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
