socket broken?

hi

 

i was building a new pc but it didn't want to start up. After i removed the cpu from it's socket i saw something what it's like to be bend. Check the last row at the top. Is the pin bent?

It's hard to tell from the picture but I don't think they're bent, what did the PC do when you tried to turn it on?
 

Also you did flip the PSU switch right?

of course i flipped the switch. It did nothing when i press the power button. Only a faint zooming noise from the psu.

 

 

 

ps please zoom in at the last row above the capasitors. Doesn't it look like there is a bend pin to the right of that row?

That indeed in your problem. I recall not long back a discussion (almost argument) about how much better LGA sockets are compared to PGA when it comes to damaging things. There has been loads of posts about bent Intel CPU's and busted LGA sockets since then

So is this a factory issue? if it was caused be me wouldn't be more pins bent?

If it's causing a short circuit then something is going to either break, or trip an over current protection circuit.

Options are either try and bend it back, or try and return the board.

So that explains why it doesn't do anything? I checked all the cables that was good

It could be shorting when the CPU is placed in, or it could be floating and not connected to anything, but the CPU pad it should go it may be used for identifying the CPU, or some kind of voltage sense pin. I don't know the recent Intel sockets, which one is it? I'll find out what that pin does, just for curiosity.

If you didn't bend the pins you can RMA the board.

that's the problem. i don't know if i bend the pins.

but if this was caused by me. i think more would be bend. the rest of the socket is fine

Pin that's bent is a GND pin, the pin it;s bent towards is VCCIO, so likely  it's shorting and the board is preventing the short from frying it.

Just tell them the pin was bent when you got it.

i already send them an e-mail telling them  it was the only bend pin and it is highly unlikly to be caused by me. because it's the only one who is bend.
