No, nothing is future proof, especially when talking about graphics cards.

You're definitely overspending on the motherboard, spending more than 150$ on one only makes sense for ln2 cooling. You won't gain any performance. 32gb of ram are pointless, go for 2x8 and upgrade if you ever need more. I also wouldn't buy a 1080, it's not worth the extra money over a 1070.

Don't get a Asus card for the love of god, get a EVGA,MSI,Zotac,Palit

Hmm... Asus only has known issues with some AMD cards... not sure where you read that Palit is more reliable. The strix 1080 is just fine.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

The MB is way too expensive. A 150$ z170 has all you need.

So... anecdotal evidence? Do you have any numbers to back it up?

Asus generally makes high quality products, I agree their customer support is not great but since the card is 80 bucks cheaper than the evga equivalent I would say it's an acceptable tradeoff... assuming he wants a 1080 at all costs.

What do you mean? i experienced with my friends multiple GPU companies, and i can tell you Asus is full of shit, i had to just argue with them and argue with them over and over

I never said he needs to go EVGA, there is the MSI Gaming X which is EVEN $80 cheaper while MSI being a much better company

what are some you would recommand

I used ASRock and MSI over the last Years, but Asus has some nice Boards as well. There isnt realy a huge difference. Pick the one that fits your needs in case of DIMM Slots, the order of the PCIe Slots and Looks.

The Board i use is nice, so maybe you wanna check that out. But you realy dont have to spend more than ~150$.
