Stream to a single speaker?

Yes, you will need to set the audio output for each program. For instance, Windows media player go to tools-> options-> devices-> speakers and select the output.

Then do the same for vlc, it will be easier to use a different program for each source as running multiple instances of a program can be tricky sometimes

Good for watching movies and tv through the stereo and have games come through my headset.

From what your saying i believe you may need something such as a sonos sound system. From what i read they connect off wifi and each one can be controlled individually with different devices and can play individual sounds. You will be paying a hefty price for them though also you may need to do more research into it to see if that feature is still available.

Another option is buying a speaker set one speaker being left channel and the other being right channel. Connect the speakers up to your computer and use an audio program such as audacity and have one song playing through the left channel and another song playing through the right. These are just some options you may also have better luck looking on you tube or other forums dedicated to home theatres or just audio related forums.

Left/Right would be bad using more than two speakers.

I will play around with what Ratchet said.
