Bottlenecking my GPUs @ 1440p?

I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem with there 1070 sli configuration  current my build is a i5 6600k Skylake 16gb ddr4  ram corsair h100i v2 liquid cooler and asus maximus hero VIII mobo and a 1440p 144hz monitor. The problem I am having is at 1440p I can only reach 96 fps with not all setting maxed out on the Witcher 3 now the odd thing is I have a 4k TV at 60hz and I can run 4k at around 85 fps( with v sync off ) with setting MAXED OUT and my minium framrate is way better at 4k then 2k so shouldn't my GPUs be able to at least run 1440p with the setting cranked at above 85 fps? And without the fps dips ? HELP!

Is your 1440p monitor 60 or 144 Hz? (refresh rate)

Ya, 144Hz is more demanding, plus the 2k res. That's probably the reason, plus the CPU may be creating a bottleneck it's self you could try OC it a bit the Maximus VIII Hero board has a nice "Gaming" OC for CPUs I use for my 6700k.

I am overclocked to 4.5 gigahertz at 1.29v 76 c max temp with push pull on radiator with fans on silent but how does this explain my 85fps at 4k with setting MAXED OUT ?

Max temp I see when playing is only 46c ....

Max temp when you play doesnt matter. Max temp when the GPU or CPU is working 100% is what matters.

I get 40C too if i play games that's not demanding for the GPU or CPU.

Hmm alright I plan on getting rid of my 2k monitor for a 4k as the resolution is beautiful and I dont mind 60hz 100℅ of the time with no dips would you still suggest a cpu upgrade?
