That's normal for some flash drives, however if it getting hot enough to melt plastic then you should worry

So not that long ago (maybe 2-4 months) i got a PNY 64GB flash drive. Lately it's been getting hot when i use it or just have it plugged in and it gets hot within maybe 10 minutes of using it and maybe 20 minutes having it plugged in. Never noticed it before because i left it in my laptop when i turned it off and only took it out for school and never touched it when it was in.  Is that normal for the flash drive to do or what?
