Hello, recently my APU started dying so I would like to get a replacement CPU and I need your help and recommendations for a new one.

Wait...hold your horses keyboard warrior, I know what you're thinking, "this guy actually got an apu hahaha". I got a pre-built pc with an APU, not knowing that APU are not very good. Either way feel free to mock 'old me' but any help is highly appreciated.

Please keep in mind Motherboard compatibility (

Here are some screenshots which should help.(temperature readings are very Inaccurate)

Sol1 : Replace your whole system to Intel, and throw that AMD away. <- Highly recommended

Sol2 : Well... upgrade your A4 APU to a higher one, such as Kaveri A10-7890K or something.

Sol1. :D

Sol 1 sounds good Kappa, you're an Intel fan?

Me?

Well... except the one who is an extreme AMD fan, and others who love AMD integrated graphics,

everyone will suggest an Intel alternative because Intel is ahead of AMD in EVERY SINGLE PERSPECTIVE, excluding a-little-bit-worse iGPU performance.

Just not a fan of unwise decisions. Alternatively you could wait for Zen if you want ;)

I was thinking about waiting for Zen, but is it worth the wait. Do you know when it comes out or anything like that?

Most people are expecting Q1 2017, or Q4 2016 at a push.

Did a quick search:  "AMD Zen FX CPUs To Be Released In Q4 2016 – APUs In 2017, To Have Comparable Graphics Performance To The PS4 And XBOX ONE."

It's no secret that Intels performs better then AMD. So even if he would be a fanboy, he's still right. Buy a good base now, saves you overall money in the long run. Pretty sure if you buy a decent Skylake build with an 6500 or better you can easily go for 5 years usable lifespan. Recommend a K CPU on a Z170, even if you are no OCer. It can literally add some extra years of usable lifespan in the long run.

Expect Q1 of 2017 be interesting for Kaby and Zen.

Hmm you've got a point. Thanks for the input.

There are different versions of Zen, the APUs (Bristol Ridge) & the CPUs (Summit Ridge). Both will however require a new MoBo (Socket AM4) but both the APU & GPU will be able to fit in any AM4 MoBo, (unlike your current APU, which is Socket FM2 (or FM2+), and current AMD CPUs which need socket AM3+. AM4 will also add DDR4 support which AMD presently lacks.

Here is a comparison of a new Bristol Ridge CPU - vs - current almost top 'o the range APU (A10-7870) which you could also upgrade to, (without changing MoBos). If you upgraded to an A10 you would get a significant speed boost in both CPU but especially, GPU performance.

Its however worth waiting for the launch of Zen before upgrading to anything. Zen will push the price of both current gen Intel CPUs & AMD APUs lower, possibly much much lower.

This is even more so when you consider that by this time next year, Intel Cannonlake CPUs will be here, & will probably blow everything else away. So my advice is this:

Within the next 15 months, any Intel CPU you buy today, will be two cycles & a complete generation behind the times, significantly limiting its useful lifespan. So, wait until January, then buy a A10-7870 which should be less than $100 by then, use that as an interim upgrade until Cannonlake CPUs are released, which will cause the price of everything else to drop (Zen, Skylake, Kabylake etc), then you can do a price/performance comparison.

And you really don't need to knock APU's & no one should disparage you for having an A6, they are perfectly able CPU/GPU combinations, and the GPU on an A10 knocks anything Intel can offer on its i3/i5s GPUs, out of the water!

Thank you very much mate, especially for the advice so far its been the best well-rounded advice, much appreciated.

Just a couple of questions:

Is this because my current APU 'bottle necks' my (R7 370)GPU's performance or is it because the overall performance of the  APU (A10-7870)?

Will I need to get a new motherboard, and if so which one? because as you said:
