Hello I'm new to this forum. I would like some help in building a budget gaming PC; I'd like to switch from console gaming. I already chose an i3-6100 3.7 GHz Dual-core CPU. I don't want to spend over $575.00. I would like suggestions on a good motherboard to spend more money on a good quality graphics card. I want to play games like Rainbow Six Siege, Day-Z, Battlefield 1, etc...

Here are my parts so far:

CPU: i3-6100 (Open to other suggestions; Intel only)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Mother.B: Asus Z170-A (Need suggestions; this might be a bit too much)

Video Card: Want to play at Medium to Medium-high settings (40 FPS or higher)

Memory: Want at least 6GB (DDR4 preferred)

Storage: 500 GB or more (SSD preferably; If HDD, 7200 rpm)

PSU: Inexpensive but good quality (Cooler master maybe)

Case: Nothing too exotic looking; something modern.

Case Fans: Something quiet

Please feel free to post any suggestions and links about how pc compenents effect overall performance for gaming PC's. Thanks!

What do you mean intel only??? Fanboy much??? When zen comes out you will regret doubting us.

He probably wants to build PC now, not when Zen comes out.

Get an SSD (installing OS on a HDD will cause serious bottlenecks* with modern hardware) and an RX480/470 if you can afford it. You won't need a Z170 board unless you're overclocking (K-series Intel CPUs). Get one like this:

*Technically not actual bottlenecks, but it slows down the system no matter what other hardware you have installed.

This PC is fine, but I would get 2 sticks of 4GB RAM. also I would get 500W EVGA PSU, I believe it costs the same.

Okay but seriously tho, you can probably drop the Hyper 212 EVO, and don't get a Z170 board for a locked CPU.

Get a hyper 212 if you want your system a little quieter. Other than that, it's not really required.

The motherboard wont slow down the system. He will be fine with a 1 TB HDD. The system will boot slower and games will load slower but other than that there wont be a difference in terms of FPS in games.

As for a case, I can recommend the Phanteks P400S. fairly cheap, great quality from what I've heard, and it has a window so you can admire your work.

I went with 1 8 GB stick so that he can easily upgrade to 16 GB's later. And if you are talking about this PSU, then it is not a better option than the one I recommended. It is worse quality.

That's what i meant. Much slower boot & load times. I still recommend a 500GB SSD over a 1TB HDD.

Is 8GB of RAM sufficient for gaming?

Yes. For a system like this, it's fine.

That will cost him 100$ for a cheap one.

Meh. Depends what he wants to spend money on, I suppose.

Ok, Z170 boards are deisigned for overclockable CPU's.

Only CPU's with a K after their number (say, 6700k) can be overclocked.

This means you are paying extras for features you cant even use unless yuo buy a new CPU.

This is a build i made for my sister a few months ago.

Cheap, good performance, plus MOBO comes with WiFI

The CPU comes with a cooler in the box, so you dont need to buy an aftermarket one, and since its an I#, it wont be getting hot anyway

This is what i got. Its a bit below the budget but theres room for a wireless wifi card, mouse (logitech G302 is a solid choice, keyboard is any cheap brand i would say. no huge performance boost to go for mechanical imo), case fans etc. and you can save up a bit to buy a SSD too. But for now, for 575 dollar i think this is the best for now. and maybe invest another 10-20 later on, to upgrade here and there. Another suggestion for you would be wait a bit for black fridday and see if there will be any huge steal :)
