Hi so i recently purchased a pair of JBL lsr305's and connected them to my MSI motherboards onboard sound via a unbalanced dual 1/4 trs to 3.5mm cable shown here http://www.guitarcenter.com/Livewire/CMP1515-35mm-TRS-Dual-1-4-Y-Cable-15.gc After i connected them i noticed that they emit a buzzing noise when i scroll or do anything on my computer im pretty sure its emi or rf interference but i dont know what causes it since it still happens with nothing else plugged into the computer, just the 3.5mm cable and power cord. noise is not there when i plug the speakers into my phone so thats why i think its emi also it is not noticable when playing music or if if the speakers volume is set below about 4 but maybe i just cant hear it. So my question is what would they best way to get rid of this noise be? new cable, audio interface, or adding a sound card to my computer?

It's probably EMI emitting into the analog signal. What motherboard are you currently using? You might be wise investing in an external DAC or an internal sound card with a grounded shield.

I would get an occasional, almost inaudible, buzz that was caused by having my phone too close to the cable of my headphones. Anything wireless nearby?

Motherboard is an MSI M5 Z170. What would you suggest for best sound quality and getting rid of the noise a DAC or a nice internal sound card? I dont think its anything wireless as its not my phone and my router is in the next room.

External DAC+amp would be better than soundcard

Would i still need an amp since the speakers are powered or is the amp for the DAC? just would like to limit the clutter on my desk

Editited to add what would be a good DAC amp combo for these speakers if i go that route?

An amp would not be required in that instance.

Nope. you would not need an amp, didnt see you were using powered speakers.

But follow @SSL's guide for a free way to fix it.

Use a DI it will separate the connection from the computer to the speaker.

This is the one I personally use, but it does put a 3dB drop on everything below 50Hz but not the worst thing in the world. Then use two 3 pin XLR to connect to the speakers.

Also your not using a balance cable input even though the speaker accepts them. I recommend using a balanced cable.
