FREE-SYNC FOR NVIDIA

I just want a quick answer : can Nvidia make use of free-sync or is it only g-sync (which is overpriced IMO) that work with 10** series.

Only G-Sync.

It's only G-Sync. Theoretically Nvidia cards can support Freesync but since Nvidia didn't want to make that workaround to have an Nvidia card and a Freesync compatible panel happen, it's not compatible with Freesync.

Nvidia could make use of Freesync if they wanted. But they don't, so it's not supported.

Yep, if they include Freesync support, it might cut into their Gsync monitor sale.....god forbid, we wouldn't wanna THAT to happen.

I'm expecting it's only a matter of time before Nvidia adopts support for FreeSync. I'm holding out on a monitor purchase to see what happens, because G-Sync monitors are way overpriced. I might sell my GTX 1070 when Vega comes out, and get whatever the RX 490 is (probably about GTX 1070 in performance), and a FreeSync monitor.

 

Or, it'd be great if someone makes a driver hack for Nvidia cards, enabling them to work with FreeSync.

I'd not hold my breathe if I were you, especially about nVidia adopting support for Freesync (about as likely as Apple adopting Android OS on their iPhones), and the driver hack (also unlikely, given that Gsync has been out for a while and there's no such hack yet). nVidia isn't gonna allow Freesync to be incorporated with their proprietary Gsync on their cards because they want to sell their Gsync add-on's in Gsync monitors. Remember, with nVidia, it's either 'their way, or the highway'......and I usually choose the highway.

 

Planning on a Zen + VEGA build sometime next year, meanwhile, the dual R9 290X are doing just fine at 3440x1440.
