ok so right now i have a msi gs70 stealth pro, this is my ONLY pc atm... working on an x99 as soon as i finish the case mods. anyways... with the release of the new msi laptops with the 1060s in replacment of the 970m, trying to find out just how much better the 1060 laptop edition, is then the 970m 6gb edition. i already have a buyer for the laptop i have now if i decide to upgrade.

Depends on the laptop. Most 1060s in laptops throttle to the same point as a 970M so be mindful of that

@Pendragon and @D2ultima can recommend a good Clevo

my laptop doesnt throttle, first day i got it i opened it up and did all new thermals with better paste and its always on a cooling pad

A hell lot more, but probs a little expensive.

well my friend is willing to buy my msi for 1000 and let me keep my 1tb m.2 ocz rd400 nvme ssd as he has his own ssds. so the new laptop would only cost about 800 out of pocket. i have the money just wanna know how much better it is. ive heard everything from "oh is the same cause its a laptop" to the "itll double your preformace and keep your laptop cooler" so idk what to believe lol

970M = 960
1060 laptop = 970

It's quite a bit faster BUT - most laptops with 1060s throttle - example Asus GL502VT has no issues (970M). GL502VM has lots of issues (1060) related to heat. 1060 runs a LOT hotter.

Yeah, I've started to notice how terrible they are. Sorry. But what tells you a laptop 1060 is equivalent to a 970?

1060s in laptops are much lower clocked than desktop ones due to most of them running at 90*C

A 1060 is supposed to be within 10% of its desktop counterpart, which outperforms a GTX 980.

And the new architecture is more efficient though, so you'll see better thermals. Idk how much though.

No it doesn't. It's ballpark a 980, and most often is a bit weaker.

It's efficient as in it gets good performance per watt. That has NOTHING to do with its thermals. Pascal is significantly hotter. The die size is very small, the clockspeeds and core count is extremely high. The thermal density is off the charts. Cooling them is a huge chore. Maxwell had such far better thermals it's not even a contest.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I would suggest getting one of the bigger msi models (17.3") and using the pre-installed software to adjust the fan speed to keep the temps down. I'm doing something similar to you and selling my G752 so I can get one of the pascal equipped laptops myself.
