Just wondering how overkill a asus rog maximus vii hero paired with a 6600 cpu, I dont want a I7 because i'm not doing multi-threaded work loads, what I want is a good looking board with killer overclocking features (want 6700k speeds without the 6700K price and hyper-threads)

Very overkill for a 6600 as it cannot oc, if you want to oc you need a 6600k, if not get a h170 board and a 6700

My Setup :P

Spoiler

Skylake: I7-6700|MSI B150 GAMING M3|16GB GSKILL RIPJAWS V|R9 280X (WILL BE 1070)|CRUCIAL MX300 + WD BLACK 1TB

You'll need a i5 6600K if you want to overclock... not the i5 6600.

An i7 6700K can offer added performance over the i5 6600K in more than a few games. GTA V, The Witcher 3, Far Cry 4, Fallout 4, ARMA 3 to name some. The fallacy of a i7 6700K being a useless choice over the i5 6600K in gaming needs to go away.

If you're prepared to drop $200 for a motherboard, I don't see why you're not prepared to get a i7 6700K...

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

Spoiler

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K - 4.5 GHz | Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO | RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 | SSD: Samsung 850 EVO - 500GB | GPU: MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6GB | PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2 | Case: NZXT Phantom 530 | Cooling: CRYORIG R1 Ultimate | Monitor: ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q | Peripherals: Corsair Vengeance K70 and Razer DeathAdder
