I have a new Acer aspire E5-574G-52QU that came with Windows 10. While trying to partition the C drive using AOMEI Partition Assistant, the system went into pre-OS mode and after that the system wont boot up. I tried to reset the PC from the " Alt+F10 - >Troubleshoot -> Reset this PC -> Keep my files " option, but the reset process stopped prematurely saying that the process was unsuccessful and no changes were made to the PC.
Please someone provide me a solution

Why were you trying to partition an already partitioned disk?

If you removed a partition and it now won't boot, you removed the wrong partition.

Reinstall Windows, choose advanced install, remove all partitions and start fresh.

It was actually only one partition, thats why I was trying to split it for better management.

Thanks for the advice, but can u just confirm that should I download the Windows 10 iso from the Microsoft website and proceed with the fresh installation? Would my Windows OEM activation information remain after fresh installation?

You're pretty much screwed.

OEM key will not stay active.

Windows 8 and higher the key is married to the Mobo, you don't get to physically see it.

So when you go to install you need a physical key to install.

Only way around this is going to Acer to buy a recovery disk (assuming you deleted the recovery partition on your HDD as you are saying there was only 1 partition).

On an OEM Acer there should be 3 partitions; boot, recovery and data.

This is incorrect. Since the computer upgraded to Windows 10, Microsoft has 'upgraded' his key.

OP, you can reinstall from ISO from Microsoft, it should activate fine. If for some strange reason it doesn't, you can ring Microsoft and explain the situation, they will help.

Thanks a lot. I also think that it should activate as the key is hardwired into the system and even changing the HDD doesn't cause any problems (as I have read in many forums)

So should I go for formatting the Hard Disk and reinstalling with the ISO I downloaded from the Microsoft's website?

Have you done this?

Because I have had to re-install windows on many computers since Windows 8.

Even if op could get  the key off the Mobo, a Windows 8 key WILL NOT work with Windows 10.

Microsoft does not upgrade keys.

You bought Windows 8, you own Windows 8.

Microsoft let's you USE Windows 10 for 'free'.

There is a very big difference.

Actually the laptop came with Win 10 Home pre-installed.

And to clear the confusion, there is 4 partitions still in my HDD. In Windows Explorer it showed just one partition (C:) and that is why attempted partitioning

I think I'm mixing posts up re; Windows 8.

Yes you can retain your oem key.

But if your oem key is for Windows 8, you upgraded to Windows 10... The key you have will not install a copy Windows 10 from scratch.

Regarding your partitions, those are supposed to be there.

You should not touch them unless you know what you are doing, or are installing windows from scratch.

You can't see them in Windows explorer because they are hidden. They (at least 2 of them) are 'boot' partitions.  Meaning your computer boots from them.

If you really want to see them use disk part.exe but do not change/modify anything.

Since you have a Windows 10 machine, you can try to use the Win10 iso from Microsofts site to reinstall, but I'm pretty sure you will need the recovery disk from Acer.

The best option would be to get the comp to boot to the recovery partition (if it is still intact).

I proceeded with formatting my HDD and reinstalling Win 10 from the ISO downloaded. And my OEM key has been activated. thanks :)

yeah there were in total 4 partitions as shown in the diskpart. I guess while attempting to partition I might have had messed up somewhat and that dmaged the recovery partition too :(

Everything is fine now, I just had to manually download all the drivers from Acer support page

Hello, I would like to say that you should resize the partition firstly and then to create a partition if you are using aomei partition assistant to partition. It's the same steps as the windows own disk management.

Thanks bro.

I was actually using the split partition option for partitioning.

Lesson learned though... I will always go for the native Disk Management rather than some 3rd Party solution
