Ok, I've recently got an SSD and I decided to move my HDD into a caddy to replace my DVD drive. So after downloading the Media Creation Tool from Windows, I put the files in a USB drive and shut down my laptop. After that, I removed my HDD and left my SSD in the main SATA port inside my laptop to install Windows 10 from the USB drive. So, now I'm left with a bare, fresh, clean copy of Windows 10 and I put my HDD back in (I heard it spinning and then not spin at all) and my laptop doesn't even see it in Disk Management! I'm totally panicking right now, could someone (preferably a professional) assist me with this problem?

Could you give any more information? Have you tried reinstalling Windows 10? etc.

Note: I've also had problems with Windows 10 installing from USB drives, mine was fragmented and slow as hell.

But anyways, let me just explain this whole situation fully. I bought a 120GB SanDisk SSD and I own a 1TB HDD which came together with my laptop. So, I wanted to have a dual-drive setup which is why I bought a caddy to put my SSD in (which fits into the DVD drive slot) but when I asked around why Windows was not booting from my SSD (although recognizing it) I swapped their places, HDD in the caddy and SSD in main SATA port. After that, I downloaded the Media Creation Tool from Windows and chose 'Create installation media for another PC' and chose my USB drive. After that I shut my laptop down and removed my HDD and left my SSD in the main SATA port inside my laptop. Then, I booted from the USB drive and deleted any partitions my SSD had so I could install Windows on it. After installing, Windows booted up blazing fast. Then I shut it down, put my HDD back in and it didn't recognize it! I followed the instruction of @MrDrWho13 but he didn't reply to this problem which is why I created a new topic.

HDDs need more power than Optical drives or SSDs. It may well be that the ODD connector (having been designed to power only the low-power ODD) doesn't provide enough current to run the HDD. The caddy only adds resistance making things even less likely to work. Basically, if your HDD works in the original slot and the SSD works in the caddy, I'm at least kind of on the right track.

But the sad story is that you might not be able to run this particular HDD from the caddy as you planned. If you're not satisfied with the speed you get from the SSD in the caddy, you might be able to run the HDD off of one of those external two-headed USB-enclosures.

When I switched them back to HDD = main SATA port and SSD = caddy, Windows recognizes both of them. I moved any data files onto the SSD and formatted the HDD. Now, the problem is, how to I create Program Files and Program Files (x86) and other files onto my HDD since I want to install games and applications on it?

Just create a folder called programs and install them in. I usually put programs on my ssd and games folders in my secondary drive. When the time comes and in the future you need to wipe the OS for some reasons. You won't lost data from the secondary drive. If you want to move programs from your ssd to hdd then use Windows 10 storage settings.

I've encountered a huge problem which I'm not sure is related to adding program files to my hdd. when I downloaded my first program, which is ccleaner my PC suddenly froze. I could move my mouse only. So, I force shut down F12+Power and turned on my PC again. This kept happening twice even at login screen. now I just left my laptop off. Please help!!  I'm Panicking right now.

Try to use the SSD only in the original slot, not in the caddy.

Yes! It worked like a charm. I'm really tired of swapping them over all the time :dry::dry:

Could you reinstall the OS on the SSD? And update it, reboot. Search for more update.  Then put the caddy with the HDD inside the laptop.

Currently, my SSD is in the main SATA port of my laptop while my HDD is in a caddy in my DVD drive slot. They are both running perfectly. Windows Update has a couple of updates for me to install so I will install them in a while.

Sorry for the lack of replies on the other thread (I was away), but I'm glad it seems to be sorted with some help from these guys.

I edit my posts a lot.
