Can EATX Mobo fit in Full Tower Case That Accommodates XL-ATX?

Zangtetzu

So my current rig uses a Cooler Master Storm Stryker Full Tower Case. I want to get an ASUS Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard, which is an E-ATX. My concern is, will it fit? My case says it is compatable with Micro ATX / ATX / XL-ATX. To my understanding, isn't E-ATX the same width as regular ATX, just a little longer to accommodate a 4th PCIe slot? So theoretically, wouldn't the E-ATX mobo fit since it can fit a XL-ATX? I wanted to know for sure before I go and spend money on a new motherboard.

XL-ATX are longer (343.345mm)and slightly wider (263mm), while EATX are wider (330mm), compared to ATX (305 × 244 mm)

an EATX board will theoretically fit in that case but it will overhand the grommets

I would assume it would.

E-ATX is the same as XL-ATX is my guess.

Will overhanding the grommets be an issue? If this were your computer, would you put the E-ATX in this case?

it's workable

Sweet. Thanks so much. I was about to post a picture of my rig right now, which currently has a MSI Z170 Gaming M7 (standard ATX), which is shitting out on me, hence replacing it with a different mobo.

Tell me about it. The me year ago thought it was a good idea. The me now is somewhat regretting it. Lol. Thought about switching to a Master Case Pro 5, but found out that they are Mid-Tower cases that apparently can't support E-ATX mobos.

Just to be diffrent? :)

Also yes an E-ATX board will fit, but you will have to check if there arent any metal pieces of the case that could toutch the board at the point where its overlaying the grommets.

In some cases you might need to put some protection behind the board at that point.
