hi, my friend recently built a pc, but he cant seem to get it to post. he brought it over and we've just been trying different things. we tried removing and reinstalling the cpu, removing the graphics card, disconnecting the hard drive, and we have tried using both on-board graphics and graphics from the card. we've also tried using different inputs and different monitors. the computer powers on like a gem; all the fans spin, lights work, and hard drive boots up, but nothing plugged in to the usb ports will light up (although they do give a flash when the computer first turns on). if anybody has any idea what could be wrong, please let us know. specs are: athlon x4 860k, msi a68hi ac, 8gb kingston valuram 1333mhz, evga 500w 80+ psu, msi gtx 770 4gb, 320gb seagate barracuda 7200rpm

i just like 2h ago had a problem with my I3 530 rig that im testing, in my case it seems to have been the RAM so check that that is fine with the board and CPU lol anyway here is a list of things to do:

check EVERY cable and other connection

test with one stick of RAM and in every slot with both sticks

unplug everything that dosent NEED to be there, so no harddrive, 1 stick of RAM, no mouse ect

re seat CPU and check there is no thermalpaste on the socket or bottom of the CPU

try reseting CMOS and clearing CMOS RAM if the board has a clear for that

try everything pice by pice in another PC if possible

there is probably something i have missed to add to that list but thats what i can think of for now atleast, hope you can get it working!

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

thanks for the reply! we tried everything you suggested except for resetting the cmos. the motherboard doesnt have a jumper to reset the cmos and it also doesn't have a button to reset the cmos. we've been looking for manuals to figure out how to but we cant find anything

there should be a small battery on the board, take that out for 5min or so with no power connected
