The mysql server usually prompts for a root password when installing. If you remember that, you can connect as root and check if the user in the owncloud config is created and has the permissions to operate on the owncloud database as described here.

If you don't know the root password, you can reset it using the instructions in the 'Unix and unix-like' section of this guide.

If after resetting you don't want to do the owncloud user and database creation though the command line, you can install phpmyadmin for a more user friendly interface.

I'm confused. If your Pi doesn't connect to the internet, then how did it connect to the repository's to install your packages?

By connecting to your router, it should automatically have internet access.

Also Ronda's steps are correct for manually resetting the MySQL root password through SSH (shell access) and don't require internet access.

Can you run some tests.

Try 'ping 8.8.8.8' and try 'ping google.com' and paste results.

Also run 'ifconfig' and paste the results for eth0.

Also run 'cat /etc/resolv.conf' and paste the results .

OK so 192.168.2.1 is the IP address of your router/modem correct? so if you go to http://192.168.2.1 you get your modems login page?

You should change your /etc/resolv.conf file too:

Quote

domain lan

search lan

nameserver 192.168.2.1

Also can you run 'cat /etc/network/interfaces' and make sure the 'gateway' is 192.168.2.1. Should look something like:

Quote

$ cat /etc/network/interfaces
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet static
        address 192.168.2.10
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        network 192.168.0.0
        broadcast 192.168.2.255
        gateway 192.168.2.1

Also run 'ip route' and make sure that the first IP address on the first default line is the gateway IP address 192.168.2.1. Should look something like:

Quote

 $ ip route
default via 192.168.2.1 dev eth0
192.168.2.0/24 dev eth0  proto kernel  scope link  src 192.168.2.1

If all of that looks like above, then I think you got a faulty Pi and need to look at swapping it or using a USB wifi dongle

About the internet issue, I dont think there is anything you can do.

But about the OwnCloud MySQL issue, you have to follow the steps @Ronda posted 5 hours ago.

Stop MYSQL

 $ sudo service mysqld stop

Create a text file with the below command (replacing MyNewPass with your password) and save it as something like 'mysql-reset'

ALTER USER 'root'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'MyNewPass';

Run the mysql safe init command referencing the above text file you made

mysqld_safe --init-file=/home/<username>/mysql-reset &

Your password is then reset, and your MySQL should be running. Test that the new password is working.

If all working, then delete the 'mysql-reset' file you made.

You don't need to use root account to get owncloud to connect to the database. Is the database running on the RPi too?

Create a new user (with password), a new database and grant the user all privileges on that database. (just for the sake of security)

I made separate account in MariaDB for owncloud and was able to connect just fine (and it is still working fine).
