budget stream pc idea

So I'm getting bored with my 2000 dollar PC I build a couple months back and want another project. I was thinking about a streaming PC. The only downside is I'm a broke ass college student, but luckily my parents still have their PC "Dell Studio 540" laying around after the construction of Tammy, my dads gaming rig. Then I started wondering it has actually descent specs with a 2.66 GHZ "overclock-able" Intel q9400 chip, 8 gigs of RAM, and a PIPEL-RN2 motherboard. Does anyone know if I could slap windows on it and use it as solely a streaming PC? Also I'm using OBS so if the CPU isn't powerful enough do you think I could get like a 770 or something smaller and use Nvidia NVENC instead of x264 for encoding. Any and all thought would be appreciated!

You could, but there is no reason to.

 

For gpu, id use a gtx 650. Its the cheapest card with nvec.

Why not use your $2000 PC as a streaming PC?

Honestly, I don't like the way my Elgto works in it. Switching between that and a console is a nightmare so that's kind of what I thought would be the best segway for "hot swapping" between the two.

You lost me at Elgto, and switching between that and a console, and whatever you mean by hot swapping those. I know what the term itself means, but not what you want by it.

woops I mis typed I meant Elgato HD60 pro. It's an internal capture card, and it is very time consuming to switch all the inputs whenever I would want to switch from PC to console during a stream. If that makes more sense.
