So I'm ordering my parts this week and I've decided to go along and buy an ultrawide to game on. I'm going to be running an i7-6700k and a GTX 1070 and don't care if the display comes with speakers. I've done some research and all I see is mixed reviews. Some saying you need to be running it off a Display port others saying HDMI/DVI will be fine. I'm looking to get the best bang for my buck, I'm trying to keep it under $350-400CAD preferably.

If you guys can tell me what are my best options and thoughts on if I should fork up the extra cash for g sync it would be appreciated!

Didn't even think of that, thanks!

The only reason to get a 25" is if you just need that ultrawide experience in super tight space, otherwise I would highly recommend 29", it's just the perfect size for a 1080p ultrawide.

Anything larger will lead to lower pixel density and you really don't want to see dem pixels.

You can even go 34" 1440p ultrawide coz your hardware kinda allows it but since the budget doesn't, 29" 1080p ultrawide is very much fine depending on what you plan on using it for.

What would be a good budget option for a 29" 1440p monitor?

Not sure about that, sorry.

I never consider getting a 29" 1440p ultrawide so I never did my research on it.

Edit: I don't think there's any...

Well I guess that puts a stop to me using more money, is it a big difference in 1080p to 1440p anyway?

Comparing 3440 x 1440 and 2560 x 1080, the 1440p ultrawide have ~80% more pixels, it's night and day really, I would suggest you go take a look at local stores if they have a 1080p and 1440p on display and compare them if you can.

And even for a GTX 1070, you will have to tone down your settings to get that 60FPS if you choose to game on the 1440p ultrawide.

For 1080p ultrawide that 1070 should be very much fine.

I've been using an AOC Q2963PM and have enjoyed the experience, looking at 16:9/16:10 monitors now, they sorta look squarish. I wanted a bigger experience and have no choice but to go with a 34" UW monitor....

You will be happy with your GTX 1070 and 2560x1080. You will be able to run on high/ultra settings @60fps on most games honestly.

3440x1440 is incredible and I love my monitor. I had an OC'd 980 Ti and I did have to play around with my setting but it was a very noticeable and excellent increase for 1080p. If you could afford a 3440x1440 monitor then Id get it.

Never heard of a 29" 1440P UW monitor, 2560x1440 monitors, yes....but 29" UW 21:9 @1440P? Nope!

I'm running an LG 34", 1440 Ultrawide. Most of the stuff I read before purchase said that 34" and 1440 was the way to go but it obviously bumps up the price. Your system would run games well enough at that res though.

Ive got a fairly beefy overclock on my 980ti which beats out every 1070 benchmark I've seen plus a 6700k @4.6 and on Deus Ex MD I get frames from high 40's to 60. That's good for me, can play anything above 40 and I prefer the eye candy to high frames.

I run very high textures and detail, SMAA is off and everything else is either high, very high or Ultra. Game looks amazing.

I'm just worried because every here and there I see people saying you're able to see individual pixels on the 29um58-P because of its low PPI? anyone here own one and can verify??

Also, I don't feel like the 1070 will be able to run games at 1440p for more than a year seeing how it's already running most at 40-80fps

The 29 inch 2560x1080 is the equivalent of looking at a 23 inch 1080p monitor with that Pixel density. So I dont think it would be a low Pixel density.  Considering that a 3440x1440 has the pixel density of a regular 27 inch 1440p monitor just wider.
