A Question about Microsoft Accounts

Around 3 years ago, I used my Microsoft account on a Windows 8 laptop and got a browser hijacker(trovi). This browser hijacker spread to my desktop (both were running windows 8) which also used the same Microsoft account. I had to do a clean reinstall on both PCs and now, I just use 2 separate user accounts instead of linking it to a Microsoft account. However, with Forza Horizon 3 coming to PC, I want to use my old MS account since it is also linked to my xbox live account. By using my old MS account, is there a possibility that the browser hijacker will transfer as well? (I know that it is unlikely that it will transfer from windows 8 to windows 10, but I just want to make sure.)

What exactly is "trovi." could you give me a brief summery or link to another page?

If it has your Microsoft account login (I don't know how it works) then you should change your password, check all of your settings and history of that account. If it doesn't then you should be fine. But if you want to be super-safe, then create a new MS account for Xbox, unless all your friends are linked to ur old one and it would be too much of a hassle to give them your new one

I don't think so, no. It shouldn't be linked to your actual account, it might have just been installed onto that computer.

Well, it managed to spread to my desktop which was also using that same Microsoft account.

From what I remember, trovi looked like a basic browser hijacker but in reality it was almost impossible to remove with malewarebytes and some other anti malware programs. Everytime it was removed, it would redownload itself. Also I would create a new ms account, but that xbox live account still has 1.5 years of gold on it. :(
