AMD FX 9370 Help

Hey, just installed my cpu with 4.4ghz/4.7 trubo, but in win10 it just says that i got 3.8hgz.. Is there something i need to do?

Put it under load and it will run at 4.7ghz. It's just not under enough of a load, and thus the multiplier is only 19 instead of 23.

That motherboard is not really good enough for a 225w CPU... o3o

If you look at the Multiplier reading in that screenshot, it says "x 19.0 (7–23.5)." Those numbers in parentheses are the range of values the clock multiplier will use at different degrees of CPU load. At max load, it should be 23.5 * 200 MHz = 4700 MHz. Provided nothing else causes it to throttle down, such as heat or power delivery.

 

And power delivery could be a problem, actually. As Nena360 pointed out, that board does not officially support FX-9xxx CPUs:

Thanks for a good answer. Do you recommend me to buy a new mboard? Will it damage the cpu if it not getting enough power?

It may or may not hurt the CPU itself, but over a period of time the excessive power draw may damage the motherboard's VRMs or the CPU socket. If this is a new system and you still have the option to return and replace the motherboard, I would. Unfortunately boards with FX-9000 support tend to be those with beefy, overbuilt VRMs and thus they tend to be the more expensive AMD motherboards.

 

Alternatively, you could replace the CPU with an FX-8350 or something else from that list. Really, the 9370 is just an overclocked, overvolted 8350 to begin with.

That's perfectly normal.

 

As for the motherboard, I would just make sure that the vCore voltage isn't too high.  HWMonitor is software that can let you view this.  As long as your temps are reasonable and the voltage is around 1.35-1.4v I think you'll be fine.  If not you can downclock it a little so it's more within the 8370 range of performance.

OK.Its a 3yr old system, do you have a mid range mboard to recommend? i doesnt really know alot about mboards ...

I don't follow AMD motherboards very closely, so unfortunately I don't have a specific product to recommend. I think most with the 990FX chipset are compatible. All motherboards have a CPU support list like the one I linked above somewhere on their official product page, and compatible boards will call out the 220 Watt FX-9370/9590 CPUs by name.
