GTX 960 Issues

Hi out there, I wonder if the collected pool of minds can help me on an issue i am having.   A few months back I upgraded my gtx 960 to a 970 (needed just a bit more horsepower).   I sold off the 960 to a friend of mine.  A couple of months ago he had to pull the card because it went to black screen a few mins after startup.  I am just now getting around to looking at it, and putting it in my system I had the same results.  It doesn't appear to be overheating or have any issues in general.  Don't want to tell him to buy new (plus i feel bad) and don't want to give up on it.   Is there a driver issue perhaps?

 

old system

Core 2 quad 9550

Asus Board (intel Chipset)

8 gb ram

 

Newer system

i7 4790k

MSI z97 chipset

16 gb ram

You can always try to be as crazy as Linus and putting it into an oven, if you happen to have one, that you wont need anymore : D

 

 

There is no guarantee that it'll work and if it works, it'll probably die again soon after : D but it might be worth a shot.

I am familiar with the concept (and the Video) not sure if that is the issue.

if it won't even boot to Windows without giving you a black screen, it's liked dead.

it does boot to windows, then right after log in then it goes to black.  I apologize I should have added that to the description
