Looking at my Signature, you can tell what my current Ram is. i have no idea what kind it is, the model number isn't showing up anywhere i look, i can only get a name and thats it. this raises a huge red flag for me, and i am going to worry about it until the end of time until i get myself something reliable that i can find and people recommend. that being said, what sticks do you all recommend and agree upon for a motherboard like mine? the Gigabyte GA-z170 hd3p?

Also, concerning ECC memory. i watched the tech quickie about it but am still considering the option, would it benefit my gaming, writing, recording session to get ECC?

Processors for embedded systems such as the G3258 also support ECC RAM. Here's a few non-Xeons that support ECC RAM:

http://ark.intel.com/products/82723/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G3258-3M-Cache-3_20-GHz

http://ark.intel.com/products/79198/Intel-Core-i3-4112E-Processor-3M-Cache-1_80-GHz

http://ark.intel.com/products/71074/Intel-Celeron-Processor-G1610T-2M-Cache-2_30-GHz

However ECC RAM is mainly used in servers and environments that require 100% uptime and stability. I wouldn't recommend it for use at home as regular ram is cheaper and more than adequate imo

What do you do on the computer?

Generally speaking, getting ECC RAM on a desktop computer would be a complete and utter waste of money.

I'd highly advise you not wasting money on ECC unless it's for a server and it's running FreeNAS or you're running critical datasets on a server.

If you look on the physical chips themselves, it'll say the actual manufacturer :) The spare RAM I have here have chips from Transcend, Hynix and Elpida(never heard of that one). Imo there shouldn't be anything really to worry about though, as long as the RAM works you're good. If you really want to test them, you can run Memtest86 to make sure your RAM isn't defective.

Can you post a clear picture of the ram you are using? What is the ram called in CPU-Z?

Geil has been around for a while and their ram is good.

i dont have that program, and i did see the physical chips. i opened my PC, took one stick out, and wrote down every bit of info it had on it, and searched. nada came up except that it's Geil, and the manufacturer webpage. but not the actual sticks i have, the model number didn't add up in their database

maybe clue me in on what this clue is supposed to mean?

You need to buy DDR4 RAM. I wouldn't worry about ECC since your PC won't receive benefits from error-correction.

For the most part, ram is just ram and the difference between brands is mainly aesthetics. If it works, don't worry about it.

i got CPU Z, but not memtest, and seems memtest requires a purchase. CPU Z doesn;t say anything about the RAM. only that it's 16GB DDR4 dual channel

There's a free version of Memtest. http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

Pretty much anything. I like G.Skill, Kingston, Crucial, and Corsair.
