Open Source Firmware?

Go to solution Solved by Electronics Wizardy,

What do you mean storage devices? HDD's? NAS? SAN?

If you want open source firmware you should probably go power8, as its completly open hardware and source.

If you want intel your best hope is a libreboot t60

Just wondering if open source firmware is a thing or not. For things like storage devices. Not sure if this technically qualifies under the category of operating systems or not so I just put it here. Not really sure where this particularly goes. I know it's at least software type of material.

HDD/SSD

NAS/SAN is more of a machine, I wouldn't exactly clarify it or define it specifically as "device". That seems inaccurate.

:o interesting thanks

Most of all the hdds are closed source, but some people can reflash them. I personally don't see a big security threat, esp with encryption.

I haven't encountered any as far as I'm aware but it's good to know in case or for future referencing. Good stuff
