Is there a reason why you could get another GPU to just use it for sounds? I would just get a sound card then. Unless I'm reading something wrong about AMD's sound.

It's possible and pointless. Just wait for an R9 290(X) to come out.

Is it possible to have lets say a HD 7950 and get a R7 260X to use it for the audio?

why would anyone  buy 260x for just the audio ?

Just sell the 7950 and get a R9-280x more performance, less driver issues, and you get TruAudio

280X doesnt have TruAudio because only new GPUs have it - 290 and 290X and 260X because its 7790 which had TruAudio disabled

280x wont have true audio. :(

I was just thinking since the 260x is about 199 which is practically a sound card. And amd has crossfire that doesnt have to be the same card. Thought I could get a graphics boost with better audio.

 

You need a soundcard anyway, the dsp on 290x, 290 and 260x IS NOT a sound card, it's just for processing audio but it is then passed further to soundcard anyway.

It doesn't have to be the same card, but it can't be any card you want either. I forget the rules. Only the 7970 and 7950 are cross-crossfire compatible, and the 7870 and 7850, and the 7790/7770 or something like that. I'm guessing its the same for the R-200 series, it will be limited by which cards use what core design.

Really dude? After all this time people are still saying that the 280x has TruAudio? It's a rebranded 7970, only the new Hawaii GPUs have TruAudio, that being the 260x, the 290 and 290x...
