Sup folks, im getting a new build but im not sure what SSD should i pick, so far the best MLC seems the PNY C2211, is there too much deacrease in perf if i go for a cheaper TLC like this ?https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-OCZ-Trion-Internal-TRN150-25SAT3-480G/dp/B01B4NUKME/ref=s9_simh_gw_g147_i2_r?_encoding=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=GJM386YP66YJ36A9HXBM&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=6aad23bd-3035-4a40-b691-0eefb1a18396&pf_rd_i=desktop

the SSD will be used to boot windows and a few modded games, what would you recommend?

Don't spread misinformation. M.2 is not faster than SATA. Plus, the drive you linked is a SATA drive anyway, it just connects through M.2 port.

That's a SATA M.2. It will retain the same speed as the SATA SSD's the OP linked.

M.2 isn't even the same thing as SATA. Former is a form factor, latter is a data bus.

For its price, I agree with choosing the CS2211.

Not all M.2 slots support NVMe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2#Form_factors_and_keying

ANYWAY

There's no real difference between MLC and TLC SSDs other than expected useful write life. TLC's are worse, but it doesn't really matter since you still need to write into the petabyte range at best, but hundreds of terabytes at worst.

no, but we don't even know if the motherboard he has supports m.2 AT ALL so i was saying it as a matter of asking... if he said YES... i would have looked up his motherboard... and seen if it had NVME, PCIE, or just SATA m.2 compatibility... you cant go and tell me that because i posted something as an example that im immediately wrong to have said it... if i WANTED to post a long article for him to read i would have done that...

I would've suggested a SATA based drive anyway because NVMe doesn't do anything to appreciable lower load times.

tl; dr, you shave off like a second or two at best.

it depends on the drive... some have shown significantly lower load times than SATA based drives... it also has to do with the motherboard (your only as strong as your weakest link

PCIe drives are faster than SATA drives are and NVMe is the protocol that helps PCIe SSDs be even faster. M.2 ports can either be connected via SATA or PCIe or both just not simultaniously.

Im going for this Gigabyte board, https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1175466-REG/gigabyte_ga_z170xp_sli_gigabyte_z170_chipset_atx.html4

i was also considering an Asrock http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157672&cm_re=ASRock_Z170_Extreme3-_-13-157-672-_-Product

i think both benefit from MLC

this is the build , the ssd is a very expensive component , i could just remove it and go for i7 and weaker cooler, however forums say i7 are too much for gaming so thats why i think investing in good ssd might be good idea.
