major upgrade need suggestions

Go to solution Solved by Quaker,

It really doesn't matter all that much. If you want to overclock, even a little, you should get a Z170 based motherboard, but which particular board doesn't matter all that much. As long as you get motherboard that has the features you want - number of SATA and USB ports, number of expansion slots, etc - the exact model doesn't matter. (I would suggest though, that you keep your choice to ASrock, ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, or eVGA.)

Most motherboards come with more than enough SATA and USB ports for the average user, and, unless you have a sound card, you probably don't need a PCI slot. (not to be confused with PCIe)

Make sure the motherboard fits your case - ATX, mATX, etc. (An ATX case can fit an mATX board, but not the other way around.)

So this was really an unexpected surprise. My current build is a FX 6300 OC 4.5ghz. Gtx 970, 12gb ddr3, 120gb ssd, 1tb WD Blue, corsair h115I.

Thus brings me to the unexpected surprise. Recently, to make matters short, I received a brand new i7 6700k, along with 2x4 8gb of patriot viper 3200 ddr4. And honestly I am looking for a good motherboard, and I am really just stuck on which one to get I heard the asus z170-a is good but at this rate I don't mind going all out or in fact getting the same ram kit my roommate bought me with a motherboard. My budget is $200 And honestly I do not really OC and if I do I really would only do a .1 or a .5 OC to the base clock of the 6700k

I recently purchased this motherboard and have no complaints. The M7 model has all the same specs with added overclocking features which you said yourself you don't intended to use. That's not to say you can't overclock with the board. The USB-C port is a good feature to have that a lot of boards are missing.

I paid around 170$ from amazon. It's LGA1151 so an i7 6700k is fine that's what processor I plan on buying this week actually.

I normally stay with ASUS for motherboards. As far as my case lol it's the nzxt phantom full tower. I'm most likely just go all out and get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132586R&cm_re=asus_z170-_-13-132-586R-_-Product granted its open box and I have no issue with that
