Time for new GPU

Hi everyone right now im very tempted to buy a new gpu now I've got a new monitor.

My current setup is:

 

1st M: Acer XF270HU (IPS,144hz,1440p)

2nd M: LG DM2350D (TN,75hz,1080p)

CPU: Intel i5-4690 3.5 Ghz

GPU: Radeon HD 7970 DirectCU II TOP Edition

RAM: 12GB

 

I've been looking alot at the RX 480 and would prefer to stick with AMD especially to take advantage of freesync.

or should I hold off for a while?

RX 480 is based on Polaris architecture, and AMD is soon going to release Vega architecture-applied GPUs at 1H of 2017.

Soooo.... you can wait until then, or satisfy yourself with single or dual RX 480.

If you're fine with sticking with what you have for a while, then wait for Vega. Otherwise, I'd get the RX 470 or RX 480. There is no reason to force yourself to wait for months at a time if you don't want to.

I'd say the jump from 280x to 480 isn't going to be big enough to be worth $200+.  I believe you should wait for the 490.

600€ monitor and a 250€ GPU for 144hz 1440p gaming? If I was you I would save up some money and get some thing decent or wait for Vega.

BTW I heard that it's not that hard to attach a g-sync module to your monitor so you can get a GTX 1070 or 1080

I had a RX480 in my rig for 3 days. Loved it but for my purpose of 4k it is accaptable on old tiltes but sweating on newer ones.

wait for vega (RX490) or for more money the Fury (X) model with HBM 2.

 

EDIT: at least the prices of custom cooled will also drop a bit
